Apple woes

As some may know I have been back in London for the past few days, and in general have been having a rather good time, catching up with a few old friends and generally enjoying myself.

Today my parents and I went out to Greenwich to the National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory and New London Planetarium. It was a wonderful day, the view was impressive from the top of the hill the observatory was on. The planetarium show itself was quite underwhelming but it wasn't that expensive so that's alright.

The woe is that I appear unable to own more than one Apple product for more than about a month, having recently replaced my iPhone after the first one was pinched while I was quite drunk, my iPod this time slipped out of my jacket pocket and fell onto the path without my notice. My parents being of the more sedate kind were some paces behind me and noticed the iPod in its leather cover a little time afterwards but didn't put 2 and 2 together, when I noticed the disappearance we went and had a look but some kindly passer by had obviously helped himself.

So I wave goodbye to yet another apple product, my iPhone has insufficient space for all my music, but i'll have to wait before replacing my iPod. My store will apparently start selling the bleeding things again, so I might hold on and see what sort of discount I can get on them!

A tale of phone woe..

For those who don't know my phone has been quite beat up for some time. Several months ago the on off button feel off and I had had to push the little thing underneath that it pressed on to begin with. About a month later that little button got jammed and I was then only capable of turning my phone on by jamming a knife in and pushing the little box, the little button was in, towards the main circuit board of the phone. I didn't like doing that so it became my mission to make sure my phone never ran out of battery. Between then and now, the little box fell off and out, went missing in one way or another, unsurprisingly really. This evening I ran out of battery, and whatever I try I can't get it to turn back on...

In short I have no mobile and therefore cannot be contacted on said equipment. If you need me, text Jim/Katy who should be able to nudge me!

Hopefully I can get it fixed, that would be nice as I wouldn't have to get everyones number again!

Life and a meme

Been a while since I last posted, but since then I have become gainfully employed. I am currently working for game where I fully intend to make full use of their 25% staff discount on just about everything, so things are looking up. I get to see Bill Bailey this weekend which should be brilliant fun, and then next weekend I shall be in hopefully cold and miserable San Diego, preferably not burning on fire San Diego, where I shall be taking part in the World of Warcraft TCG World Championships... it doesn't get much geekier in my mind, but I revel in it, normally I wouldn't have bothered but the prize moeny I should get there without too much difficulty should at least pay for the trip, and it'll be a good experience.

Christmas is looming on the horizon now, so I need to start getting gifts and I am as ever feeling uninspired, so any suggestions of cool things will not be unapreciated, on the other hand I was recently back home visiting my parents, and I got possibly my most dreaded question... "What would you like for Christmas?" especially when in the realm of my family, I have absolutely no idea. I can't ask them for roleplaying books as they just don't understand the concept nor indeed would they know where to begin, I'd probably end up with Rifts books and I can't even stand it when my housemate even looks at his copies let alone read them myself, DVD's always feel to me as a bit of a cop out when it comes to family, we should know each other better than having to resort to DVDs, with Roleplaying books see also, computer games and books. So I usually come out with 'Suprise me' or 'Something interesting...' which aren't terribly helpful.

1) Name your current characters and which system they are in.
Shodan Law - SAGA edition Star Wars
Kern Sol SAGA - edition Star Wars
Barin Mek - 3.5 D&D
Helden Olafson - Exalted 2E

2) What is their race, their role and their best and worst traits?
Races:
Shodan - Feeorin
Kern - Keldor
Barin - Dwarf
Helden - Solar Exalt

Roles:
Shodan - Commando, Fighter pilot and Jedi
Kern - Colonel in the RIS and commander of all troops on the Last Citadel
Barin - Mage and general all round tank
Helden - Overking

Best Traits:
Shodan - Loyal. He would do just about anything to save those he cared about.
Kern - Brilliant tactician and excellent lightsaber duellist, and is generally a amiable and helpful person.
Barin - Unflinching from duty
Helden - Loves his wife and would do anything to protect her, he brings order and an iron fist of justice.

Worst Traits:
Shodan - Thinks with his lightsaber a little too much, willing to betray the republic for his own personal ends.
Kern - Totally insane when not in a stressful situation. Battle Sanity as I like to call it.
Barin - Racist
Helden - The end always justify the means.

3) Which do you find the hardest to play and why?
Kern because sometimes I just don't quite hit his mindset and nothing comes out of my mouth exactly as it should be.

4) Which do you find the easiest to play and why?
Helden because deep down in all of us there is a little egotistical meglomaniac waiting to get out... or is that just me?

5) Which is the most enjoyable to play and why?
Shodan I played him for a good long while which always helps so I am very comfortable with his character.

6) Which would you say is the best character?
In terms of build I would say Shodan from when we were playing in the previous edition of Star Wars, now I find it hard to compare, none of them are overtly twinked to any huge degree, but if I had to come down on one, it would have to be Helden.

7) Which would you say is the worst character?
Probably Barin, I dropped levels of spell casting with a wizard, never a smart idea, but I was trying out an alternative build and it works, just not quite as well as I'd hoped.
Well it has been an unfortunate week this week really.

I screwed up bad.

I won't go into details but essentially I got fired from where i was working and this has closed certain doors to me. It all alas as well stems from one silly stupid mistake I made. So it is nose back to the grindstone for me.

Last weekend was a bit of a disapointment too, I went to Gencon UK and found it to be very lacking in thingsI had exepected including the ridiculous entry fee of £20 per day. There were some highlights, testing out Eye of Judgement was cool but it is a bit of a novelty more than anything else, as I was playing in a UFS tournament I didn't get to see as much on the saturday as I would have liked as there was a thing about 4th Ed DnD and some stuff about the 40k roleplaying game. It was good to catch up with some folks I hadn't seen in a while though.

I grabbed a copy of Shattered Hope, which was the demo adventure for the 40k roleplaying game that was there, it is my plan to run it on a wednesday in the near future. If I get excessive interest I might even go so far as to run it more than once.

In other roleplaying news my Heroes of Battle game seems to be going well and everyone is enjoying themselves, they overcame a big hurdle lask week by defeating the Scourge of Law, a heavily advanced Entropic Reaper, so things are going well for them. There will be no session this weekend due to a lack of Lex as she is in Rome currently.

I finished Bioshock this week which was cool, it had a few issues, it really isn't long eonugh or hard enough, the last boss was nothing short of a joke, pathetically easy to defeat. I might try it again soon using only the wrench that might make it a little more challenging. It is still very enjoyable.

Still chin up and soldier on!

Well its been a while... like usual, my birhtday has been and gone with little to no fanfare which is how I generally prefer it, and life continues on.

In finding work there have been ups and downs, a job that I looked certain for fell through which was disappointing because I was all psyched up for it and it looked like a really good opportunity. But hey not everything can work out perfectly. Tomorrow I have an interview for a job, it is the sort of thing I'd like to do and it pays well but it has long hours and is in Bridgend so it isn't ideal, but we'll see how things turn out.

In other news I am really enjoying WoW again. I go through phases but it has caught me again, and my 360, I love it and over the next few months there are so many games coming out soon which will be good. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Halo 3 so its looking up there. Normally I would prefer to paly FPS on a pc but mine just doesn't cut it any more, and I can't afford to upgrade it. Mainly because I decided I wanted a giant flat screen tv instead.

Roleplaying wise itis being good fun, tohugh I feel like i'm not playing enough D&D the Worlds Largest Dungeon continues on and I am now playing with a Suel Archanamach, we are level 10 and it is only my 5th character. Exalted is generally good, but I am all up for more circle based play rather than the war that we have been conducting, and perhaps some things that are more challenging. Star Wars is also good fun the new Saga ruleset is much better than the previous set and things seem to be going on smoothly. Scion is interesting definitely but having had only one session its hard to say. Finally my game, has been going well in my opinion, last night the players found out a few more bits and pieces and suffered the unfortunate loss of one of their cohorts *rubs hands with glee* I have plans!

SO all in all life continues on much as it has!

The meal was great, and as the evening went on I began to feel better. The came the music and the dancing, the music started off badly.... making me want to leave, but it then became cheesy and fun, so I stayed and danced and looked like a pratt all in the name of entertainment.

All in all a very good night, appart from a couple of things I would have done differently had I been organising it.

List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.

1) Sir Arsham of Solamnia D&D3.5 Dragonlance
2) Blackscar D&D3.5 Dragonlance
3) Garron Luwin D&D3.5
4) Father Edward Kune Unisystem
5) Lazerous the Unbreakable Vampire:The Masquerade
6) Staff Seargeant Ben Ash Stargate SG1 D20
7) Rellen D'Deneith D&D3.5 Ebberron
8) Major John Slavov Traveller
9) Gustav von Reiksman Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
10) Rakgar Axebiter D&D3.5
11) The Baptist WWE Know Your Role D20
12) Hawkeye Exalted

1) Who would make a better college professor: 6, or 11?

11 without a shadow of a doubt.. Ben Ash was a grunt and happy about it, whereas The Baptist was an intelligent guy, who chose to show off his knowledge by lamping people with assorted furniture.

2) Do you think 2 is hot? How hot?

No... a horribly scarred and burnt elf with psychotic tendancies....

3) 12 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?

It is probably some sort of mission from Sessus Nagazzer (The Slug) to save the Scarlet Empire from collapse, as to whether it would succeed, well its tough but Slavov is a Russian supersoldier so I reckon he could probably manage himself in exalted.

4) What is, or would be, 9's favourite book?

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

5) Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around?

The other way round but even then unlikely Ash would swear if ordered to... but Blackscar would try and kill him anyway, what with him hating humans with no exceptions.

6) For some reason, 5 is looking for a room-mate. Should they share a studio apartment with 9, or 10?

Definitely Gustav. Gustav was an Imperial Engineer, the man responsible for The von Reiksman spring-loaded artificial bringer of death to small mice and other assorted woodland creatures, and the truly wonderful Von Reikman overloaded pack mule launching siege ballista. Which I'm sure would help Lazerous in his plans to take over the city... Rakgar would bury his axe in him as soon as look at him, then get drunk and smash up the apartment!

7) 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?

They don't, Blackscar attempts to kill both of the squishy humans, but is horribly killed in retaliation by the exalt and the 12 level charger, who then sit down and have long discussions on whether it is ok to rebel against the system if said system doesn't get anything done the way it needs to.

8) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens?

Rakgar thinks he has some small modicum of chance, and decides he's going to take this human's skull to Blodwin if he proves enough of a challenge... and then is horribly obliterated by the 20th level wizard.

9) If 1 stole 8's most precious possession, how would they get it back?

Absolutely Arsham would never keep hold of someones possesions if he knew who they rightfully belonged to.

10) Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire.

The Big Purple Worm That Did!

11) What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together?

Arsham would have been snagged by some mystical ritual to help Kune kill some sort of giant Daemon

12) If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?

We'd go get drunk... so probably quite well.

13) If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?

Conquer the World for me

14) Does anyone on your friends list resemble 11 (either in appearance or personality)?

Thankfully, no.

15) If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be?

He'd side with Lazerous, immortal creture of the night... or a human... unsurprisingly the non human whose entire race relies on drinking blood mostly from humans would appeal to Blackscar

16) What might 10 shout while charging into battle?

"Courage and Honour" "Never Retreat Never Surrender" "Don't Forget Meklav tied to the cow that was bloody awesome"

17) If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose?

Hero - David Bowie

18) 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?

Hawkeye gets it. Arsham reacts the slowest, and Hawkeye the fastest, followed closely by Ash, they all reach in, Arsham misses because he only has one eye, Ash is too busy studying the pancake to make sure he gets it right, and Hawkeye reaches in and grabs it.

19) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10?

None Blackscar won't be picking up male dwarves anytime soon... however if he tried it might go something like this. "Hey dwarf I see that you aren't human want to go kill someone..." which just ain't going to work.

20) What would 5 most likely be arrested for?

Murder but he owns the police so...

21) What is 6's secret?

... nothing... perhaps he likes guns... and killing people who he is told to....

22) If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first?

The Baptist. gustav would start off in an early lead, but then his magnificent person moving massager would break down, and the tireless Baptist would soon overtake him.

23) If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8?

hmm a mercenary general, or a russian supersoldier.. tough call i'm going with Slavov, as he is less likely to get drunk and destroy bits of town

24) 1 and 9 reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's sinister secret organization. 11 volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he/she is actually a spy for 4. Meanwhile, 4 has kidnapped 12 in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5, they seek out 3, who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?

"The Fall of the Inquisition"

I can quite honestly say that WoW is by far the best, the others lack the polishthat WoW has, they all seemed like an uphill struggle to achieve anything, whereas WoW the goals are always attainable.

Dead Rising is released her on friday as well.... I really want it, I've played the demo to death but killing zombies just doesn't get old, but I don't think I can really afford it this month, I have spent a little too much money on other things.

Finally I have big feet, so big that I cannot buy shoes form actual shops, I have to order them online, I bought a pair midway through last month, they said allow 28 days for delivery but that most orders would arrive in 10 days, they still have not yet arrived, my old trainers are falling appart and cutting my feet up quite a bit now, if they don't arrive soon I am going to have to revert back to my army boots which are a pain to wear.

Also I am resolved I am going to get fit, starting tomorrow I am going to begin eating healthier and exercising more.
